Project Details
This project consisted of onsite assembly and erection of two 25’x35’ 90,000lb tainter gates, fabricated by Moran Iron Works and installation of tainter gate hoisting equipment, for each gate, fabricated by Lemke Industrial Machine. Gates were shipped to site in 8’ sections requiring engineered custom built stands and erection devices for installation. Work included but not limited to: D1.1 steel fit up and welding, structural and mechanical installation of gates and hoisting equipment. Diving was performed by Glenn Industrial Group.
BCI is the prime contractor hired by Duke Energy on this project and is responsible for work including:
- Removal of existing tainter gates and hoisting equipment.
- Alignment verification of exiting trunnion bearings, side and bottom seal embeds, and concrete piers.
- Installation of new gates, bolted connections and seal welding of skin plates.
- Installation of new side seal embeds.
- Installation of hoist equipment.
- Wire rope connections between the hoist and gate.
- Tensioning of wire ropes.
- Operational testing and commissioning of gate and hoist system.
- Diving activity required for Sluice Gate cone Valve replacement along with concrete underwater repair.
