Project Details

BCI Construction served as the primary contractor for the extensive refurbishment and repainting of the Garrison Dam project in Riverdale, ND. The project involved working on 10 Intake Gates (28’ x 14’) and 1 Emergency Gate (28’ x 18”). Highlights included the meticulous removal of picking beams, bulb seals, roller chains, and gate guides. The gates underwent a thorough pre-blast process for welding inspection, encompassing over 13,000 lf of welds. As directed by the government, fillet and full pin welds were removed and replaced accordingly. Picking beams were expertly disassembled for inspection, with a subsequent load test to ensure they comfortably withstood a weight of 100 tons. The gate roller chains were disassembled and refurbished, while new gate guides were skillfully installed. Employing the Vinyl Paint system, the gates underwent an abrasive blast and precise painting. New seals were also incorporated to guarantee optimal functionality. A gate guide survey utilizing six cameras ensured the gate guides and rails remained engaged throughout the gate’s 170’ travel.
