Crane Inspections at Brownlee and Hells Canyon Dams

At BCI, our team of experts excelled at performing a wide range of crucial tasks at the Hells Canyon Power Plant and Brownlee Power Plant.

For the Hells Canyon Power Plant, we conducted meticulous pre-load test crane inspections on the 380-ton crane, including the aux hook. Additionally, we carried out pre-load test inspections and NDE on the lifting beam. Our dedicated professionals also performed load rate tests on each individual hook, ensuring they met and exceeded the 125% rated capacity. The load rate test was also conducted on the hooks and lifting beam assembly, ensuring the utmost safety and reliability. After completing the load testing, we performed thorough post-load test crane inspections on the 380-ton crane, allowing us to address any potential issues promptly. Furthermore, our team conducted post-load test inspections and NDE on the lifting beam, ensuring its integrity. Going above and beyond, we also conducted inspections and NDE on two additional lifting devices not used in the 380-ton assembly.

At the Brownlee Power Plant, our scope of work was equally extensive. We conducted pre-load test crane inspections on both the 300-ton and 400-ton cranes, including the auxiliary hooks on both gantry cranes. Furthermore, we carried out pre-load test inspections and NDE on two lifting beams and the rotor lifting device required for the 700-ton pick. As with our work at the Hells Canyon Power Plant, we meticulously performed load rate tests on various hooks, lifting beams, and the rotor lifting device assembly, ensuring they exceeded the 125% rated capacity. Post-load test crane inspections were also conducted on the 300-ton and 400-ton cranes, including the auxiliary hooks on both gantry cranes. Similarly, we carried out post-load test inspections and NDE on two lifting beams and the rotor lifting device. To further enhance operational efficiency, we replaced the end trucks and all the gearing on the end truck drive for the 300-ton crane.
